General Discussion / Re: Genstealer cult!!!

So then my only complaint remains there is no way to use more than one box set AND use the formation because there are no legal HQ slots for a second detachment.  All the Cult HQs are unique characters and the formation includes all 3.

Looks awesome!  I am relatively new to 40K...  So how does this work... if you play the Phodian Annihilation Swarm as a Formation, then you don't need say to follow the normal "generic" Force Org Chart about having a legit HQ slot in there?  Would it be legal to give those units Tyrannocite Drop Pods or would that be not allowed because they aren't listed in the Formation?

Yes, if you are correct and there are actually intentions of giving them a Codex, sure.  But if the box set is all we get, it would have been nice if they included a few extra variant dataslates to give the Cultists a transport or the ability to take the units in different sizes.

I am not currently a Tyranids player, and I will have to look for this Children of Cryptus... never heard of it.

I'm slightly disappointed because the "list" for Genestealer Cult is REALLY limited.  The Formation is the entire box set, and clocks at 600 points.  The units can not be altered at all.  The three HQ choices are all Unique Special Characters.

Even if you buy multiple box sets, you can only use the two Troops choices and the two Elite choices, which will fill up a Force Org fast, and the Army has no access to Fast Attack or Heavy Support slots.

Your only non-CTA Ally is Tyranids, which kind of relegates them to being the side Ally Detachment for a Nids army.

@Fritz40K anything you can think of?  I was wondering if maybe a Fortification or something could at least give them a few big guns... but how can you structure a Genestealer Cult army as the Primary Detachment?

He's a special HQ with special rules.  Basically he comes in with a modified Deep Strike and goes off and runs his own special mission.  If he succeeds you get bonus VP, if he fails, you cannot win the game.

At least that is how he works if you take him as an Agent of the Emperor in any Loyalist Army.  Maybe he has additional stuff for Blackshields or other configurations.

I am sure he will be seeing more play now that the Shattered Legions and Blackshields rules are out.

As awesome as he is, he is a huge risk.  He either will earn you 1 to 3 extra VP, or if he fails to do that, you completely lose the ability to Win, so the best you can hope for is a Draw.

I believe the Legions are kind of like the "Historical" gaming version of Warhammer 40K.  You play it because you like the idea of recreating the Legiones Astartes as they "once were" -- even though unlike real Historicals, these are works of fiction :-p

So, you capture the feel and essence of the Great Crusade and Heresy Eras, without necessarily worrying about just what is the best to win with.  Also, since everyone has access to the same list, with a few rules tweaks and special units, there is more of the illusion of balance.
