WIP. Looks real rough right now but tomomrrow night it's gonna start taking shape.
Don't try making a unit unkillable. its a waste of time and the dice gods laugh at you for wasting your time. Dedicate a unit to a job and make sure it does it til it's either dead or running.

Can't wait to see the finished product Harry!!

Great "speech" Derek, you've been more of a help around here to us Lazy Painters, and I remember you saying you didn't have much to contribute around here~

Look out for a progress thread on those Paladins, i've been away for the weekend but now i'm back and ready to go^^

Sooooooooooo..........  It's been a while, and the board has grown so much I kinda feel embarassed to be coming back.  But the community has been quick to welcome me back so I guess the first thing is first.

My intention is to focus on a 1000pt Chaos list that started with that Killteam earlier.  The end goal:  Have a 1000pt fully painted army that includes something along these lines:

1 Slaanesh Lord
10 Chaos Space Marines
20 Noise Marines
2 Rhinos
And........

FACE TANK! (Aka that Landraider I started and never finished)

I'll be trying not to put such a tight schedual this time, instead focusing on just building a playable army to start getting back into it, and with 7th edition, this seems like a good time to go about it.  Post soon with the models in their current form.

So just to start small and get myself back in the game, I entered the Painting Challenge forum in group 2, lead by Zangetsu.  For the first two models I am going to focus on is two Rhinos I had to repair and build back up.

As you can see, it's alot of broken bits and replaced pieces, as well as my first attempt at using Greenstuff many years ago.  The question is how to bring these in line with what I am doing with my Emperor's Children army.  Now, apparently alot of people did like the way my Landraider was starting out, so I decided I am going to doccument the process of how I was going about it, and why the pain seemed so messy everywhere and yet culminated to that pattern that I am using mostly for Aesthetics and back in the day Mutated Hull.

So first and formost, I had to prime them, and while stripping them would have been better, for my purposes I dont mind losing texture, because I am going to make my own.

So the first thing I do is check if I still have my skill set.  I take the hatch at the top because it's a clean flat surface, and now I have to hide the hatch-line to make the Rhino look less 'boxy' and more organic.  While I dont mind the edges, the inside split needs to look like one large maw comprised of many mouthes, so I took this as my first test run.

The trick is using random slashes and swirls of a darker colour, it's there to watch for patters, small faces, wierhd coincidences.  I will build them up until I have a clear show of mouths and eyes, filling them at random, starting a pattern to just break it to give it that chaotic mix of things that look like faces but are not when you look closer, just mashes of random assortment of eyes and teeth.

So roughly 4 hours in this is the position I am leaving it in.  I build up every bit of flesh I make it rise and fall with highlights, giving it a texture without having to actually make one.  This requires many layers, could be blended, but it's an issue of time, and quite frankly I want to get these table-top ready, not Golden Daemon ready.  I am doing 5-7 Layers for the White, building up the center to be clean and smooth with watered down whites.  This should make it a two day project, and then I can move onto the second Rhino, which I think will be more of a challenge considering the really shotty greenstuff work.  I will however make the best of it, hopefully it wont look too badly.  Here's the picks where I am ending the night at.

No, but maybe I should consider the idea of commissioning a few models at a time if you think my work is good enough.  Could use the money to actually get one of my armies up to a playable level lol.

Still, thanks for the compliment, not particularly good with the 'Good' section of aesthetics, but I think I got the dark and twisted style in a firm grip.

Didn't get as much done as I hoped today, but I am trying not to let it get me down.  I want to finish both Rhinos and their respective squads.  May be able to go out and get the books I am missing along with a few bases to get this force up to 'playable' status.  Get Painted or Go Home.

And can anyone cite the quotation I have used for time-stamps? ;)

Ok, while I am still working on a squad of Noise Marines (Pics soon, I hope :P)

Until then, I have had a friend recently join the 40k hobby (Primarily a Fantasy player), and I thought this was a great time to go back over the one collection I regret not giving more attention and bring them to a quallity I am happy with, BUT trying to keep it simple enough that I can do it quickly and efficiantly.  Spending some time in an amazing (Yet not entirely intuitive) flash program I have come up with a colour scheme that I imagine I can paint a 10 gaunt squad in a day (So 1 year of painting).

So I would like to share with you my vision, and receive feedback.
