40K Rules Questions / Re: 8th ed questions
« on: June 23, 2017, 09:44:18 AM »
Thank you very much.

The thing to remember, and this applies to every army, that we currently have the basics in the Index books. Wait until proper codex books come out and I'm certain we'll start to see those flavour rules coming back to everyone.

40K Rules Questions / 8th ed questions
« on: June 22, 2017, 03:39:53 PM »
First set of 8th ed games at our club tonight and a couple questions came up that we couldn't find in the rulebook, so I guess we are being blind and missing something. Can anyone give us page numbers if we have please. Thanks.

1. Can you use psychic powers in combat? Initially we thought no but there is nothing in the psychic powers section to say one way or another.

2. Can you charge a unit you cannot see? The example was a unit behind a ruin wall. Nothing visible at all. Rules just say pick an eligible target.

Why do people want to break it anyway? Can't we just play and have fun?

Discussion: Chaos Space Marines / 8th Death Guard legion question
« on: June 18, 2017, 02:25:58 AM »
So, in the new index Death Guard and Thousand Sons have entries for what they can and cannot have. Death Guard get to take plague marines as troop choices but lose lord on bike, lord with jump pack, terminators, bikes, raptors, warp talons, maulerfiends and forgefiends. This has irked me a little as my DG army includes those. So could I choose to not play the legion specific rules (which basically just give me plague marines as troops) and keep those units in my army?

My plan for Terminators, Raptors and daemon engines is to replace <legion> with another name, perhaps a nurgle war band which isn't Death Guard.

Death Guard get a little screwed though. No taking terminators, raptors/warp talons, or most daemon engines. No lords on bikes or jump packs. Not happy there.

Give them time. 8th isn't out to buy yet. We'll get there and then we'll have plastic models for SoB.

That will be corrected in the first FAQ.

I think they will be just as good as they are now. The new detachments will help make more interesting and varied lists though.

Give it a few weeks once 8th is out and some players will have worked out how to break elements of it. It's part and parcel of new editions.

I'd be concerned if Eldar and T'au get put in faction Xenos.  Not sure about the rest so far.  Gw still not saying much, just corp speak ATM.
Everything is great.  Everything with a model will get rules, is not the same as everything with rules will get rules.  Conversions matter,
Fluff matters, Depth of immersion into the game matters.  Well to me anyway.

It will all come down to factions. There won't be a generic Xenos faction like Imperial and Chaos will be. I can see Tau, Ork and Necron players getting a little miffed by how much two other factions will have available to them compared to themselves. Also, it remains to be seen whether Eldar will share a single Aeldari keyword or whether Craftworld, Dark Aeldari (or Drukhari) and Ynnead will be separate.

Everything now points to it being Death Guard vs Ultramarines.

I really don't understand the hate for these new models. GW hasn't screwed us players over at all and neither have they messed with the fluff.

Just because they introduce new larger scale marines does not invalidate your older marines. These are just a new unit for you to include. I don't see them updating other models to the same scale. Likewise I expect every army to get cool new units as well as they get updated codexes.

As for Fabius Bile he was experimenting with enhancing marines but he didn't have the backing and resources of Mars to do it. Caul has all that and more to create these new additions to the Imperium's finest.
