General Discussion / Re: What are somethings you guys like about 8th?

I like that the game plays faster, units move quicker, more shots in general per unit. Speeds things up in a good way. I do think in balance games should be a bit smaller in size/points.

Iím so so on vehicles now being like everything else. I like how monsterous creatures and some multiwound models work.

I like how GW has been updating and supporting armies.

Considering 8th is a break from previous rules edition I think itís very well done so far- 9th edition will be the full refinement of 8th.

Thinking of trying to maybe play a little more of 8th edition. I haven't played a lot of the new rules and wondering what you guys think of it as a whole.

Iím curious in the battleplan for this list- it mirrors almost exactly my Grey Knight list- land raiders, dreads, PAGK and HQ choices.

Less cost or more models, more models I feel like would not work as one would have to offset it with cheaper units- scouts? Regular space marines are still a bit pricey.

Love the retrim on the power armor and the basing. Your Chaos Army looks great, a true how 40K should be played collection.

I remember when terminators had a 3+ save on 2d6 (w/ no invul)..  Inasmuch as the save modifiers in 8th are less extreme than in 2nd, I could be happy with a 4+ save on 2d6 (w no invul.). This gives a 73% chance to save against stuff like plasma, grav & lascannons, a 58% chance to save against melta, and a 92% chane to save against small arms.

So after watching some of the review videos on youtube that are already out, here is what I came up with for my Custodes army, only need to buy 1 model (character HQ Valoris) to complete it.

Battalion Detachment 3cp
Valoris - 250 pts
Shield Captain - 122 pts (Guardian Spear)
3x Custodian Guard - 156 pts (Guardian Spear)
3x Custodian Guard - 156 pts (Guardian Spear)
3x Custodian Guard - 156 pts (Guardian Spear)
Comtemptor Dreadnought - 167 (Assault Cannon)
Comtemptor Dreadnought - 167 (Assault Cannon)
Venerable Land Raider - 370 (Hunter Killer Missile)
Venerable Land Raider - 370 (Hunter Killer Missile)

Auxiliary Detachment -1cp
Culexus - 85

Total Points - 1999
Total CP - 5

I think this list is solid and able to fight in all phases of the game it has something for every range of the battle (48", 24", Close Combat) and has improved psychic defense which seems to be this Army's most glaring weakness and well worth the 1cp spent to shore that up.

The land raiders are crucial to stopping negative modifier shenanigans, and comtemptors to put some hurt on most vehicles.

For a long time my plans where to repaint Huron Blackheart. And finally I have done it.

I can deal with the power fists, since they are still good in close combat and I'm always trying my best to not put my termies up against dedicated assault units or mobs that will over power me, but losing the 2+ save taking it to a 3+ or even a 4+ is hard.

On the Grey Knight side I'm struggling even a bit more with them- armor save vs. cost. It's really messing with my list.
Discussion: Eldar / Re: Wraith list. Help please!!!!

Thanks.  I've been playing Eldar for aprox 10 years now (Through the really bad, and the really OP) and now that 8th is a thing, Craftworlds are in a really good place balance wise.  It has the feel of the "Old School" Eldar where every unit played a role, be it Swooping Chickens as the fast flanker, the Fire dragons as the Overwhelming anti armour, Dire Avengers as the elite front line infantry.  There are no more "Spam this unit and win" units in the Codex/Index for us.  So having that mix will really help you out on the table.

Aspect warriors are in a great place at the moment, except Dark Reapers (too strong IMO), so having that balance is vital.

Even the humble (or not so humble, depending on who you talk to) Wave Serpent is incredibly important this edition, as armour makes a HUGE impact now.  I myself hated them, as I thought they were too over costed, and didn't bring anything special except some heavier firepower to the table.  But after playing a few games with my Aspect Host, both with and without the Wave Serpents, I found that they are absolutly neccisary for your army to work at it's peak efficiency.  Also play tested a few Falcons in the mix, and I was suprised at how much they can carry you through the game.  Hugely underestimated for their points (I run mine with AML/Crystal Target/Shuri Cannon) they can put destructive amount of hurt, AND can transport a small force of say, Fire Dragons, or Dire Avengers for close support and charge blocking.

The key this edition is not to throw all your eggs into one basket and spam one certain unit (Like the Wraithknight spam of yonder years) and really diversify your army.  If your local meta is horde dominated, then Warwalkers/Vypers with mass Shuriken and a Farseer support will really help you in that department.  IF your meta is likewise Armour intense, then a Falcon and Fire Dragon combo is in order, and it comes out reletively cheap no matter which way you look at it.

My Wraith list is the exception to that thinking - take one "thing" and spam it across the board and hope for the best.  It works, but also has its limitations as I explained in my previous post.

Ultimately, it is how YOU want to play the army.  If you really like Striking Scorpions, then focus on that Aspect (See what I did there :D) and suppliment it's short comings with something else.  If you prefer the speed of a Windrider army, then it NEEDS to have some backbone (Wraithblade/guard in a wave serpent is perfect) so that you aren't limited to one tactic/focus/list/play style.  Keep that in mind when you create your Aeldari lists.

Again, another wall of text, but i've had this drilled into my head over and over and over again by a brilliant Aeldari player at my local LGS.
