I have been looking at the tempestus and they seem pretty cool but I want to know if these guys are good enough to take alone.

In small games yes definitely. In larger games I'd start ally-ing in things like inquisition for Psykers, SoB for anti armour/Flamers, marines for drop pods to mix with your Valkyries.

Played in a doubles tourney this past weekend facing off in a list with these guys.

Interesting and effective. Small plasma/melta spam units deepstriking in-cheap and disruptive for the points, lots of objective secured units also.

Honestly, I see their Taurox spam as the stronger advantage, flyers are strong so maybe take 2 but no more than that under 2000.

At 1500 these guys are definitely viable. You have enough units to have specialised task forces and redundancy. Anti-tank, Anti-armour, anti-MSU (just lots of shots), flyers, Objective capturing trucks (who can and should tank-shock scoring units).

Drive up, get out Melta something, drop the units in Valkyrie off with more melta and pincer their armoured units paratrooper style. Follow that up with plasma squads in Tauroxes to kill the units that pile out. Once you've dropped men off drive away and go cap objectives.

Also a notable something: Units can embark in another units transports so any nearby Taurox can pick up a damaged Scion unit.

sFor my local shops escalation league I've done really well with them. Their orders are amazing if you need spot removal. They look like they shouldn't work with only 5 units in the Dex but they are really good if you play them correctly
