Painting Commitment for 2014 [Custom Craftworld Eldar]
« on: February 20, 2014, 10:18:36 AM »
So I've been collecting Eldar now for nearly 10 years, slowly painting my way through each unit. Spending a little here and there to augment my collection.  The problem is that most of my army was painted when I was just a beginner and before I had any idea what I was really doing. Knowing that, my wife challenged me to repaint my collection and as a reward will buy me more as I work my way through it all.  Not to do things half way, I decided to add a little more to the challenge, equipping the entire army with banners to improve my freehand skills.

Unfortunately I don't have much free time to paint right now, but if I want to get it all done I'm going to need to let other people know what I'm up to. The Falcons will be having a new life as Waveserpents, so that will be a fun batch of conversions.

Normally I would start with my troops and get them painted but I'm waiting on a few bits in the mail so to start things off I'm going to do my Warp spiders. My goal is to have them finished by March 1st.

very nice, I have been doing some repainting myself, and doing small additions as I complete something else.  Give that fine woman a hug for supporting your love!

Spiders are almost done I should finish them tomorrow. I also just got a large package from my wife, seems she just couldn't wait to give them to me so I'll assemble them as I go and mix them into my older troops.  I expect to post pictures of them on the 1st as well as posting my month's goal.  I think next I'll do one of my heavy weapons platforms and my guardians. Show off my craftworld colors :)

Spiders are nearly done, Exarch is finished. I unfortunately had some nasty stuff pop up last minute that I'm still sorting through. I expect pictures tomorrow. As for this month's commitment, I plan on focusing on IDICBeer terrain competition. So I don't plan on doing much army painting. I may manage to paint a few test figures though.

Alright finally tracked down my camera, still not to sure about his base yet but it works for now. I want to do some freehand on the back but I haven't decided what to put there.  Heres the Warp Spider Exarch, the rest of his squad will soon follow.

Thanks plan on posting the rest of the squad when I can clear some space again.

My goal for the month is a custom built eldar fortification and a converted Mantarch. I plan on sculpting on a nice mantle and mask for him.

[Updated 03-09-14] I'm also going to do a couple of test Guardians to finish out my colors. I expect to have those guys up soon. I'm not sure if i'm satisfied with the Mantle I made for the Autarch but with my limited sculpting experience (this is my first time doing a sculpt for a mini.) Its about all I can do for now. I'll probably remake him in a few years after I've gotten more practice at it.

Unfortunately due to our dryer dying last night I've had to downsize the planned fortifications. Still making some just not as big. Pics coming soon.

A little update tonight, most pictures are in the contest thread right now.  Here is the work I've done so far on the Jetbike.

So got my Mantarch finished. I'm rather pleased with how the mantle turned out.

So my commitment for April is to paint at least 1 squad of 10 guardians and their weapon platform.  I still have a bit of cleaning up to don on them as well as add the banners I have planned for them so its a decent bit of work. I expect to be able to turn out more after this month. We're wrapping up the work on a rather elaborate cosplay right now for my wife so that's eating up most of my painting time at the moment.

I also made a new facebook page where I'm posting all of my pictures for my army. Check it out!

Looking good man. I like that you went for the gusto on the Mantarch cape. Sometimes painting with all those bright colors can be a mind job but lends very well to the whole " mantel of the laughing god" good job.
