Initial thoughts: "The sky is falling in and I'm never going to be able to win a game with my eldar again"

More logical thoughts: "This is an entirely new game, everything is changing. Unlike previous codex releases there is no current thing to compare to. It actually looks like I might get to use some of my favorite models that sat on the shelf the past couple of editions".

Thoughts after first initial skim read of the eldar stuff: "
  • This looks like I am going to have to take a more diverse army than Eldar have previously
  • I am struggling to work out the ramifications of everything. What do all of these key words mean? Fly? Jump Pack?
  • Star Cannons look quite good
  • My biggest concern is the -1 to hit for moving and using heavy weapons. I can't see anywhere that we get to ignore that rule, and to me that is a concern. Everything of ours is meant to be fast moving, and so I see a lot of our things only hitting on a 4+ since sitting still is not what we do. However looking at the dark eldar entries I don't see where they get that rule from either, since they are confirmed as getting it.
  • More along the lines of my initial thoughts but scatter bikes look pretty bad now. Move and are hitting on a 4+, wounding toughness 4 on a 3+ instead of 2+, cover increasing armour saves by +1 instead of being a separate save. Well maybe not bad, but they seem to be a lot more specialised at killing large number of weak enemies rather than more elite troops which they were good at killing previously due to weight of fire. They still seem pretty good at killing lightly armoured vehicles interestingly enough, mainly due to the strength 6

Dark Eldar get it for Dark Lances as a special rule for the weapon but only when equipped on a vehicle (Raider, Ravager, Razorwing). All other vehicle weapons are Assault or Rapid Fire so they're not effected.

The problem with Shuriken cannons is the low range and the loss of jump shoot jump with everything
