with a blackmane great pack you get fear and furious charge for the entire army. you don't get that with wolves unleashed. also to run the great pack you need to be playing 1850 or more. anything less you really have to shave points off.

i would still keep the banner because the more units you can drop next to the banner the better. with the counter attack and counter charge rules that will add up to a lot of extra attacks really quick. in short death by numbers.

oh i see well then what you need is some thunder wolf cavalry. i would take them with storm shields and power mauls. also look at long fang with lascannon. because i have the great company i have to take to long fang unit. so i take them as a two man unit one being the sergeant and the other with a lascannon. i know this only will give me a total of two lascannons on the table. but really the long fang are there to be annoying. your opponent will ether try to take out your thunder wolf cavalry witch will take a lot of shots to do. or waste shots on taken out your long fangs.

that is why i like murderfang in a drop pod so much. i do try to get everything i can into drop pods. it's the old saying go big or go home. so in my 1850 list i have a 10  drop pods coming in first turn. so i get just about all of my army across the board turn 1. and with the counter charge rule it makes for insane close combat. how is the counter charge rule working for you?

I can think of a few things land speeder with multi melta, thunderwolf calvary with power maul, or muderfang in drop pod.

The one thing I see is the stormwolf yes it's nice but cost a lot of points and you should get it on turn two. So unless you are going to fill it with 14 blood claws and Ragnar. I wouldn't take it to be honest the whole idea of the Blackmane formation it to bring as many drop pods as you can. Also having Ragnar really helps for all claws get re roll to hit in close combat. As long as he is still on the table. But if I had to pick a list I would go with list #2.

In order to run a blackmane great company you need to be playing 1850 or more. Anything less than that you should just run a legendary blackmane formation. yes the down side is that you don't get the fear and furious charge rules for your army.

1500 pts
ragnar blackmane (attach him to blood claws in drop pod)
wolf guard terminators with storm shield x3
5 man blood claws x 5 (at least 3 of them in drop pods if not all)
5 man grey hunters x 3 (all in drop pods with one having the wolf standard)
land speeder x 5 (all with heavy flamers and put them in small squadrons)
3 man long fangs squad with 2 missile launcher each x 2
5 wolf scouts (all with camo cloaks and sniper rifle)
murderfang in a drop pod

if you would like to know how i would run this please let me know i can give you my thoughts

The rules say that you can only assault what you shoot at. But what about when one of two things happen. First, what if you completely destroy your target during shooting? Are you able to assault something else? And second, what if the unit you shoot at is having to fall back. Are you able to assault something else?

Has anyone made a drop pod with no doors on it? I am getting ready to build mine and I'm thinking of not putting the doors I am just wondering if anyone has done this all ready. And what do they look like? With no doors.
