Which campaign book should I get?
« on: June 28, 2013, 07:14:55 PM »
Hey wargamers,
I'm interested in running a full 40K campaign and one of my friends suggested Forge World... Taros Campaign, Horus Heresy, Amphelion Project or something with Death Korps of Krieg. In our club we have 18 players, 10 of them are regulars and every GW army represented (except maybe Vanilla Space Marines). I'm thinking about Horus Heresy because it is 6th edition. Any thoughts? Have you guys played one?

Get them all. They are well worth it.

I think the Mymera one (IA 11 ) has the potential to really involve more players.

Well Taros just got revised to 6E (dropped in price to boot), and involves Elysians, Marines, and Tau.
DKoK was in all 3 Vraks books, and that was just nasty (Marines, GK, Chaos, and Krieg); the characters have been updated for 6E, and DKoK got their big update in Fall of Orpheus (which is 6E as well with the Minotaurs).
Mymeara was nice, introduced some Cadian armour IG along the Wolves and a pretty cool Eldar Corsair concept army.
HH-Betrayal is by far the best book I've got from FW, but is only Marines (big shock  ::) ) so any Xenos players will be irked to say the least.  Of course, there's also the Primarchs and Marine Superheavies..... :o

TL/DR answer - I'm copping out, but go with what can get the most people having fun with  ;D

I did not read all FW books but most of them involve Imperium vs  Xenos or Renegades. For example the campaign of Vrakks is mainly Imperium (Imperial guard and some marine chapters) vs Chaos renegades (Renegade planet defense + Chaos Marine), In that case would be tricky to add Tyranids for example.

FW books are great if you look for different units, army lists, fluff and campaigns with two parties (each party can have several players). I am not sure is the best option if you look for multi-party campaign.

Did you check  Crusade of Fire form GW? There you can find some ideas for campaigns.

So many great advices... Thanks everyone! Your thoughts helped us pick up a couple of campaigns :)  I have the Crusade of Fire campaign and it was a good starting point for the gaming group (after some modifications). They were only used to playing tournaments. We're about to finish Crusade of Fire and we managed to get the Siege of Vraks and Taros (new edition). We'll try the Taros Campaign first. Tau is currently a favorite around the club. I'll try to post campaign updates and battle reports. I would like to get your thoughts!
