MrSalamander's Entry Eldar Farseer 6/21 - Completed 7/2
« on: June 21, 2014, 08:10:56 AM »
Hello everyone. My entry is this slightly customized Eldar Farseer. All my armies are Imperial so this model is the beginning of my first xeno army. Fearing the warp all these years this HQ will be my very first psycher I will be fielding also. And to add to all-things-new, I will be painting this model over white primer instead of my traditional black. Challenges will be all the white primered nooks and crannies I usually ignore with black. But in return most of the colors will come out vibrant. Progress will be posted and I wish everyone GOODLUCK ;)

The first thing I chose to paint are the Farseer's robes, since they are the deepest layer of detail to paint. Using Warlock Purple(former GW name) on the right side folds of the garment  and Vallejo's Deep Sky Blue on the left side. Paint was thinned down with water and gradually painted with subtle layers, manipulating the little pools of pigment into the desired areas. Appearing kind of sloppy at first, additional layers will smooth the color transition.

Enchanted Blue and Liche Purple were painted in the darker recesses of the robes creating more contrast with the white primer that was left showing on the edges of the folds. Hawk Turquoise was also applied to the inner sleeves and inner lining of Farseer's long coat. I apologize for not decoding the outdated color names, time is of the essence.

I really like the conversion, that's one unique Farseer  ;)
We bring only death, and leave only carrion. It is a message even a Human can understand.

9. Skull White was thinly applied between the light blue and pink to smooth out both the edges.
10.[Front view] Cloak painted Liche Purple.
11.[Rear view]

12.[Front view] Belt was painted London Grey. The mask was also painted purple. Violet ink, a little water added and applied over the Liche Purple in one go to prevent dry splotches.
13.[Rear view] adding water or thinning down the paint enables one to control the pigment into the desired area.
14.[Front view] Badab Black/Nuln Oil wash was then applied into the darkest folds of the cloak/coat and mask. The previous ink created a nice gloss for the wash to settle in. The Hawk Turquoise from the inside of the cloak was darkened with thin layers of Enchanted Blue. Dheneb Stone highlight on the belt.
no rear view of the black wash for some reason. sorry

15. Belt was highlighted with skull white then washed with moderate use of Asurman Blue and Coelia Greenshade. Chest runes painted black
16. For the runes I wanted a bone look. Will show method later.
17. Liche Purple was reapplied on the mask and cloak.
18. [Rear view] not just paying attention to the raised areas to highlight, but also keeping in mind the thickness of area for thinner brighter highlights to layer over.

Too tired to type all the steps, plus its eating at my painting time and family/work/reality time. I've photoed each step mostly. alot of it was also finding mistakes and fixing them before moving on to another area of the model. will try to go back to include colors/techniques.
