Tyranid Spire and spawning pool
« on: July 11, 2014, 08:17:34 PM »
Hi Guys,

So i'm in the process of making some terrain for a friends competition running this month called feast fest, you can check out the details here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8Nh9sEkQOA

My plan is to make some terrain around a spawning / slime pool on a world where the tyranids have started to infest the planet, i'll be trying to fit this in with Mike's terrain board with is an overgrown urban board but I really want to capture that tyranid feel, here a picture of the first of the 3 spires which will be surrounding the pool.

Let me know what you think,

Thanks

John

Here's the first of three spires based and textured, hopefully it'll look decent when it's got some paint on it.

Very cool, looking good! Is that paper with some sort of clear coating on it?

thin card and hot glue, thats all, simple materials list and I think quite effective results. :)

2 spires down, 1 more to go, then onto the slime / spawning pool then I can call this piece done!

Here's the three spires in place and some filler / Spackle (depending on where your from) down to start the crater off in the middle.

As always feedback / comments welcome!

Update from tonight's hangout / efforts. Cork area is going to be like a ruptured tarmac surface which has the big crater in the middle, all the greenstuff is representing bubbles in the slime (yet to add the slime) the blue areas are rocks / broken ground where the spires have broken the earth, I've tried to curve up the tarmac area's near the spires too. I'm debating if I should magnetise the spires for easier transport but all that's left to do really is the coarse sand / fine sand over the majority of the terrain and the slime in the middle, I can then go on to painting this beast and then it's onto the next project.... custom myseptic spore pod. :D

As always, feedback and comments welcome.

Update today, the slime pool in the middle has been textured and the edges of the board has been attached with the filler / Spackle.

If you can buddy either put up a list of the materials used send pm it to me I like the effects the spires have. What you made them from is what I'm looking for in some new basing techniques.
