Hello Warmaster forum!
Recently there have been a lot of rumours about the idea of a horus hersey boxset. I will be doing a rumour roundup for you all here. I will be breaking down all the rumours myself and telling you personaly, what my oppinions are about that rumour. Please note however that these are all rumours that you should take with a large quantity of salt.
LotRSGB and Hobbit are not selling enough to warrent shelve space in Games Workshops so they are going to be discontinued. This seems to make perfect sense to me, especialy with the smaller Games Workshops having less shelve space on offer. Lots of the LotRSGB and Hobbit stuff have been becoming online only, which to me further renforces that this could be true.
According to rumours LotRSGB and the Hobbit are going to be replaced by a Horus Heresy boxed set. The box set is said to have two marine armies in a mixture of armour types and a mini-rulebook. The game is going to be a stand alone game, something reminesant of the old specialist games Games Workshop used to have to get begginers in. The rules could be used to get begginers into the main games of 40k and 30k, as the rules are said to be a hybrid between them. However the game is supposed to be a stand alone game, like Space Hulk. I think that this is also probaboly truthful. Space Hulk is always a huge success and currently 30k outsells Fantasy, so it would be the logical thing to do (although when has logical). The mixture of armour types also makes sense to me, so begginers can see which one they like best and to deter people from just buying this instead of actual armour sets which make FW more money. The rule set realy makes sense to me, as it broadens the market of both 40k and 30k, driving more sales.
The next rumour is that Games Workshop will be releasing a small plastic Horus Heresy miniature range to accompany this. In this range will suposable contain a Mk9 armour set and a small Harliquin sized plastic Sikarii (A cult withen the cult mechanicus as I understand it) army among other things. This sounds the most unlikly of the three, but it would not suprise me if it came to fruition. It wouldn't be the first time Games Workshop have used Forge World to see if something will sell. Plus, it makes sense that if you are going to release a Horus Heresy box then there might as well be miniatures to accompany it, right?
Well, thats all I've got for now! Thanks for reading and please post your oppinions and hopes below! See ya!
