New to 40K -- Base sizes?
« on: June 29, 2015, 11:50:46 AM »
So as a new to 40K person, picking up CSM...  is there a reference as to what would need to be on 32mm bases vs whatever bases may be packaged with them?

Always use the size that you get in the box.  Doesn't matter if it's 15 years old or a brand new sculpt, if it came with the original model it is legal for use on the table.  Only the most strict or competitive tournaments MIGHT say that 'Jump units must be on 32mm bases' or other such things but 99% of the places you might play at will not.  The new 32mm bases were an aesthetic choice by the designers, not a gameplay choice.

An example: if you have a Rogue Trader era Terminator on a 25mm base, that is a legal GW model, hasn't been modified in any way, and you are allowed to use it even though all Terminators now are on 40mm bases.

If it comes with it, it's legal.  If you're building a model from scratch, like a Chaos Spawn, you use the base size of the current model in reference.

Lol phew I have some of the really old school Obliterators and they are so tiny compared to some monstrous marines they make now that aren't even in Terminator armor. Glad I don;t have to rebase them, not so much for the trouble, they would just look silly on 40mm bases heh.
