General Discussion / Re: What are somethings you guys like about 8th?
« on: January 23, 2018, 08:25:09 AM »
Thinking of trying to maybe play a little more of 8th edition. I haven't played a lot of the new rules and wondering what you guys think of it as a whole.

Everything except terrain rules which need a real overhaul to be worthwhile.

Terminators are pretty much pants now. Mainly because armour save modifiers have severely hurt them plus the -1 to hit in melee with powerfists. They need a points reduction to make them worth fielding again.

I wouldn't play them as they just don't interest me at all. One of my friends however, is ecstatic because he already has a large Custodes army for Horus Heresy which he's going to use.

3. Detachments just modify what you start with.

Discussion: Tournaments / Forum narrative games?
« on: November 27, 2017, 07:16:40 AM »
Many years ago over on the Fantasy Flight Games forums I ran a narrative forum game for the Call of Cthulhu collectable/living card game. I was curious whether anyone would be interested in playing such a thing on here.

It would work something like this; Each month/fortnight I would post up a narrative and a mission, possibly with a battle zone. Players then run that mission but would decide their own point levels. Play as many games as you would like. Get your friends and local players involved and message me with the results, factions and any unique characters played. The outcome would then affect the story and the following round's missions.

It would just be a bit of fun and get people playing. Would there be any interest if I ran such a thing?

General Discussion / Re: Loosing in the list construction phase.

Even after playing 40K for 30 years I still don't fully understand list construction. I'm a fluffy/narrative player who takes what feels right for the army and/or individual unit. I try to consider weapon strengths and weaknesses although 8th has largely done away with weaknesses thankfully. Everyone has a different view whether something is or isn't worth the points or abilities. Although under 8th I find it is less about the list so much as looking at what your opponent has fielded and understanding where you need to focus fire.

My recommendations are this are as follows. If you are a casual player then play casual. Learn through playing what does and doesn't work. My other suggestion is do what you've sort of mentioned in your post and ask those competitive players for their advice. They'll leap on the opportunity to help you get better at the game and your list building.

Good luck.

He has a brief appearance in the story for Wrath of Magnus but there are no stats for him in 40K as yet. I do fully expect him to be one of the next loyalist Primarchs to turn up in the next couple years.

By sounds of it you needed more terrain on that table. A decent amount of blocking terrain will help and reduce the effectiveness of that rule.

When I first saw the side on picture in the White Dwarf I wasn't impressed but once I saw the 3D spin-around video it has grown on me. I don't think it's as bad as all that. All the odd looking Primaris stuff is going to take a while to sink into the norm.

I can't find anything in the FAQ that covers it. Nearest thing is the description of the order for an exploding transport.

Discussion: Eldar / Ynnari question for a friend
« on: October 07, 2017, 02:56:42 PM »
Got a question from a friend which I'm not sure how to answer. He was playing Ynnari.

" If a transport vehicle gets destroyed does the unit inside get to use their power from death rule? I believe that they are not on the board at the time of its death so they cant get the soulburst just the same as they cant be effected by the vehicle exploding before they disembark"

I assume not because as I understand it they aren't considered on the table at the time. Any help?

General Discussion / Re: Why Death Guard For 8th Edition?

I hadn't considered Cypher but I imagine GW have a plan for him. Russ definitely seems right. While Guilliman is holding up the Imperium I can see Russ leading the Space Wolves into battle against the foes of mankind as an opposite response to Guilliman.

At some point I also expect the Sanquinor to be a manifestation of Sanquinious, in a similar way to the manifestation of Celestine, and being the Imperial command in the Dark Imperium.

My money is on either the Lion or Leman Russ.
