Title: Chaos army log
Post by: PvtShields on September 30, 2015, 04:31:34 PM
Hello all, welcome to my army log. Here Iíll be updating progress on painting and gaming.  Ill post pictures of my army as i slowly get it painted. Iíll also post battle reports and things I've learned or wish to try out. Feel free to give me advice on tactics and painting as Iím rusty in both and hoping this will help me grow both skills.

Just a quick background on my 40k history, I started playng back in 3rd edition.  Picking up the starter box of space marines and dark eldar with my father. He played the Space marines and i played the Dark Eldar. I quickly dropped the dark elves and went to something i felt was more my speed, chaos space marines. I played heavily threw 3rd, 4th, and 5th edition where I drifted away from the hobby. Every once and a while Iíd pick up the new rules or grab a box of figures but I didnít play the game until about 3 weeks ago and it has changed a lot.

Ill put up a couple pics Iíve taken, Iím using my phone as a camera and Iím no Austin Powers of photography so if they donít turn out let me know and Iíll try something new. I'll start with the troops, as they are the closest to being painted.

Here's some more troop pics. 1 squad was painted first, and because I lost paint the other two squads are brighter. The 2 other squads i got started last week, unfortunately I've only gotten a wash on them so far this week. The rhinos were also painted last week. Still lots of work to do on all of them.

The idea behind the paint scheme on the troops is that I want them to look good from far and in groups. I'm using them to try and get back into painting, so the mistakes I make can hopefully just be hidden in the numbers.

My goal is to use this to help me track my progress and hopefully keep me motivated on the army. I'm coming up with the fluff as I go. The next post I'll put a light recap of the small 800pt. tourney i played in last Sunday, in that I'll put what lessons i learned. To finish off ill put some pics of my forgefiend and converted warpsmith. Thanks for reading.

Alright so i know i said i wouldn't post more but I lied. I'll be getting my hands on some more paint this weekend and some time with an airbrush so ill be trying to get some base colors done. With that said I thought I'd post some more pics of built figures before they start getting painted. Here is my 5 raptors and 15 terminators and sorcerer in terminator armor. The sorcerer has had gray based on him but this seems like an okay time to put him in.

The Terminators are set up into 3 squads. Two units with 4 combi meltas, 2 chainfists, and power axes. The remaining are 3 combi flamers, heavy flamer, and a pair of lightning claws.

These pics might be a bit shoddy, if so let me know and ill retake them. They were done in my original set up and I think I got something better going. These are my havoc squads, I thought I'd try to do something cool with these guys.

One is equipped with 4 lascannons, the other with 4 missile launchers. Both are in rhinos with havoc launchers. Converted from razorbacks. I like the rhinos but think the guys need more chaos to them.

What I'll be trying this weekend is 2 squads of 5 chaos marines. Each will have 2 of the same heavy weapon, so 2 missile launchers, or two lascannons. They will sit in the rhinos hopefully being deploying in positions with good fields of fire. The havoc launchers will shoot at what ever infantry targets are available while the 2 heavy weapons will fire from the top hatch. They may have to move once or twice to gain better fields of fire at which point I'll take the snap fire or just shoot the bolters. If enemy drop troops land in my back fields I can concentrate fire from the two units to deal decent enough damage. If they take fire and die I'm not to worried, but they will require anti-armor attacks that will pull fire away from my forward moving force.

The rest of the heavy weapons. Again I won't be painting much until the weekend. After that I'll probably try and get the havocs and their rhinos painted up to where the other chaos marines are at. From they i can start going in to do details.

I wanna make the havocs stand out a little bit from the rest of the basic line troops. A small variation in the scheme, not sure how yet though, if anyone has an ideas I'd be happy to hear. Sorry for the multiple posts, just had a bunch to get out.

Hey everyone, I got a free day today thought I'd see what I could get done. Decided to take a break and post some pics up. I did all the extra pouches, horns and skulls on the 20 marines I'm working on. As they are all pretty the same i just grabbed 2 random ones and a champion to show.

I'll be cleaning up all the black areas, as well as trying to bring the first the first squads green up to the same brightness as the others. Probably do some work on the rhinos while I'm at it. I'm thinking of changing the plasma glows to orange, as well and doing the eye lenses orange, not sure yet.

Good stuff!

Love the terminators and looks like quite a good collection of CSM.

Thank you for the comment, yeah I love termies so I'm kinda waiting to do them until i think i can do them justice, or have nothing else to paint.

So I decided to go with classic red lenses, it is what it is I guess. I did all 30 marines but I'll just show a couple, mainly the same champion I've been showing, as he seems like a good example with pieces from everything I've been painting. I also tried to make the skulls a lighter color then the horns going through them. Kinda happy with how it came out. If i can get the right lighting or that I wanna get a group shot of what I have so far.

Also I still have no idea what color to paint the weapons, I'll be leaving them until i think of something, and I'm happy to hear suggestions. Was maybe thinking the black and yellow stripes. Anyways that's it for now, thanks for reading.

So because this is also a gaming log I wanted to put in battle reports to show me learning as i play. Something to reflect back on later on i guess. Now this got alot longer then i thought, and there are no pictures this time. So Iím sorry.
Alright so I wanted to highlight the mini tournament I played in last weekend. Its a monthly thing, held on the last Sunday of every month.  As it was my first I assume that every one is small forces. It was 800pts and had a moving objective theme.  My list was as follows;
Warpsmith
6 Chaos Space Marines
meltagun
Rhino

6 Chaos Space Marines
meltagun
Rhino

6 Chaos Space Marines
meltagun
Rhino

Hellbrute
Reaper Auto-cannon
Missile Launcher

Forgefiend

Game 1
It was against Tau, not a super serious list, 2 kroot squads with some hounds, 2 crisis suit units with flamers, 1 solo crisis with dual flamer, a riptide, and a HQ crisis suite with tau twin melta equivalent. The mission was cool, each player placed 1 objective in their deployment, and another in no mans land. At the end of every game turn the objectives you placed would move 6Ē towards the enemy deployment.

I spent the first 3 turns firing mostly everything at the riptide until it died, my warpsmith and a squad went for my objectives, I actually got him in melee with the tau leader, but only got 1 wound on him before he ran. I unfortunately forgot I had soul blaze warlord trait, not sure if it would have helped much. Not a lot happened really, i lost 2 rhinos and 6 guys.  I lost after after I lost focus on holding objectives and went for kills.

I learned that keeping objectives in mind is usually best. I saw blood and went for more. I also need to remember things more, I forgot to assault one turn which would have put the riptide 1 turn sooner. My opponent probably would have let me go back and do it, but I feel I need to learn the hard way. I also learned that if a rhino is completely surrounded by kroot, crisis suits and a riptide the men inside probably wont make it home for Christmas.  Lesson learned, we can pull it together in the next game.

Game 2

My opponent was a Blood Angels player I actually played the week before so we were kinda chummy. His list as best as I can recall;

Leader with powersword  jump pack

5 man tac squad with some kind of grav weapon

10 man tact squad with melta and missile launcher in drop pod

Dreadnaught with melta in drop pod

5-7 Assault squad with some guns, leader had a shield and powerfist

We each got to place and objective and at the beginning of our turn we would score 2 points for holding 1, then it would scatter 3d6Ē. I placed my in the middle right up front of my deployment, he placed his in HIS back left. If the objective hits a board edge it travels to the opposite edge and continues moving. So if it went off my edge,i t would come on his.
Turn 1
I give him first turn, so I can react to his drop pods. His objectives almost scatter off the board but falls short by 1Ē, sadly we were only rolling 2d6 at this point because we didn't know it was 3 until next turn. His dread comes down first, out front to the left of my forces which are blocked together. His assault guys move forward towards a building in the middle of the map. Not much from shooting and on to my turn. My objective scatters towards the middle building i follow it, and fire some melta's at the dread and my forgefiend at hs assault marines. Maybe 1 marine drops and i get a glance on the dread.

Turn 2
His objective doesn't scatter, lucky him. He drops 10 man tact squad down and they land on my objective, so now i wont score points. His leader and assault marines make t into the middle building. His shooting does very little, 1 rhino gets immobilized. My turn my objective scatters to the right of the middle building, now more towards his table side and his other objective.  This is when we find out about the 3d6, and we donít move his objective another d6 which later proves crappy for me. I chase the objective with 1 rhino, tank shocking his drop pod unit on the way. They fail LD. And run back into the building.  I don't move my warpsmiths rhino, instead he gets out by himself and moves to the immobilized rhino. I did this because I didn't want to move the squad in a weird way so they could still see the assault squad in the building. I could have done it but because Iím newer to the game i avoided it. Leaving my warlord open. I donít like doing questionable moves, whether they are legal or not, to avoid coming off as a cheater due to my lack of rules. Shooting sees the dread die, warpsmith repairs the hull point and the rhino does nothing to get moving, my next mistake. I kill a couple of his drop unit guys forcing them to fall back, now back on my objective, crap.

Turn 3
His objective doesn't scatter, he moves his  drop unit over to fully cover the objective and be in the full front arc of my rhino. He does a questionable 12Ē jump with his assault squad leaving them behind my warpsmith. There is about 3 left, HQ, sgt, and some guy. Shooting sees my rhino on the objective get wrecked leaving the 6 guys outside and pissed. Assault sees 1 loyalist die due to flamer snap fire. Then the warpsmith is beaten down in return.  My turn I dont score and the objective doesn't scatter. I decide with the lead he has i must table him, but the game ends turn 5 no matter what. I pile out of the two rhinos and get read to avenge my warlord. I move the 6 man quad around my wrecked rhino to get a better view of his drop squad. Dread and forgefiend just jimmy around. I blow 1 rhino, and kill a couple drop marines. I opt to rapid fire bolter at his assault marines instead of pistols and assaulting. I kill the sgt. Leaving his leader pretty much ready to kick my ass. The rhino doesnít repair itself. The other 6 man squad does shoot pistols and plans to assault, hoping to knock him off the objective. None of this works and and my unit gets wiped out in the attempt.

Turn 4
His rear objective doesn't scatter, and now because he has my objective he rolls for it, and it scatters further towards his back corner. His drop squad now down to about 3-4 guys runs back towards the objective and away from the coming doom. His Hq jumps to the right of my 2 units preparing to assault those poor bastards. Some minor shooting sees 1 chaos marine fall. He assault my chaos squad, i fire my meltagun, 6, and 3. He rolls a 2 and I kill his warlord. Promotion. My turn sees me tank shock his drop pod with my 1 remaining mobile rhino. Nothing. I move everything else forward, i get my forgefiend around around the middle building and insight of the drop squad. Shooting sees the drop pod and and drop squad, leaving only his back field 5 man tact squad to kill.

Turn 5
He gets to like 15 objectives of something crazy, i don't even care. He doesnít do much, or anything. My turn i move what i can forward and with combined fire i bring them down to 3 marines, 3Ē from the board edge and they pass their moral. He wins.

Game 3 was against eldar. I wont really go into much detail, he was an extremely new player. His first words to me he questioned my list and if it was legal. I offered to show him my army list, and if i am over 800 pts I will feel pretty bad now. He would move 1 unit then fire 3 units, then go to moving guys again, with some psychic. It was ridiculous. I tried to be a good sport, letting pretty much everything go, even his units moving all over the board all through out his turn. I drew the line when i fired at his dire avengers he decided not to go to ground, after rolling his cover saves, he realized 1 would survive and said he changed his mind and went to ground. I won, but i didnít enjoy it as much as my other two games where i lost.

Alright so this was alot longer then i thought, Iím sorry my typos and grammar are probably pretty bad at this point but Iím lazy, sorry. I love how my forgefiend did, it actually hit 50% of all its attacks every time it fired. Scoring 3-4 wound of glances/pens each time aswell. I used my rhinos as mobile pill boxes all games to avoid incoming small arms fire and psychic powers. Although a safe route it cost me the game where the extra fire power probably could have helped me inflict more damage. I could have been more aggressive, i was worried about my rinos surviving to much, i should use them as a shell to deliver my troops.  With the tau i used them to avoid all the flamer attacks because he had so much, and the eldar player wasnt able to cast anything but shrouding, which he didnt do properly anyways. The dread didnt do anything crazy, he added some shots here and there.

Future battle reports will have pictures, I didnít want to slow my games down anymore then i already would with be a newbie. So this Sunday i should have 1-2 reports with pics where ill explain what i did and why, and why i wont do it again. I will be modeling a Blood Angels trophy on the special weapons marine who snap fire the enemy warlord down. And some damage on the rhinos that were wrecked and exploded. I also wanna try and find something Tau like to put on the forgefiend for killing the riptide. I think itíll be kinda cool to develop a story for my army that way.  Anyways if you read all that, wow, thanks and I hope you enjoyed it.

Hey just a quick update, did some work on the rhinos. Metal stuff, the tracks and the lights mainly. I tried to get a pic of each of the squads and a groupie pic.

Tomorrow im picking up more paint, and a new brush or two, the ones I'm using are pretty bad. I'll also be getting some time with an airbrush, so hopefully i can get the rest of the pare plastic stuff primed and either the gray or green sprayed up. I'll then be playing a flames of war game so won't get much done. I'll post up a couple list tomorrow as well, for Sundays games. I might post them in a different topic so i get a better chance of replies lol. Any who, here's some pics. Thanks for reading.

So i just read through your post, the first question that i have... What do your Chaos marines celebrate christmas? Anyways the army is coming along very nicely. I enjoyed the tournament report. It seems like you need to focus more on remembering all of the mechanics for the game.... (missing the assault, more aggressive on objectives)

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4104995/Games/7edRef_V6.pdf

That is a great cheat sheet that i use to help keep track and log my games, I've noticed it has helped me. I have just started a chaos space marine army. I took all the extra Dark angels from my box and started adding chaos bits... So it is like my Dark Angel recruits converted over!! (who could of guessed) My new army is still completely grey and in the works of being converted. Once i am ready to start painting my army they will look very close to how yours are coming out. I will be sure to put some pictures up. Anyways keep up the great work!!

Hey, thanks for the reply. Nail on the head, i need to remain focused. I think a lot of it has to do with me being rusty with the rules. This weekend I'm going to try and play extremely aggressively, even if it costs me guys. Just to get my mind set out of being worried about losing guys.

I like that cheat sheet, I might use it myself until i get in the routine of remembering things on my own. Sounds like you got a sweet start to a chaos army, would love to see some figures at some point. I'm currently stuck on what color to paint the guns, I was thinking black with gray and silver highlights but I feel it will add to much darkness to already dark models.

Thanks again for the comments, helps keep me motivated.

I'd recommend a bone color for the bolt guns. Adds enough of a brighter tone without going outside of the palate you're using.

I really like that idea, i just did one up to try it out. I tried to make it look different then the horns and stuff, i put a guy with horns in to try and show. I feel like it kinda came out like flesh colored. Hopefully these pics aren't to bad. Thanks for the advice, wracking my brain over that one color choice for days now.

You can break up the slides on the bolters with the metal accents, so they'll keep a similarity with the rest of the model without looking too much like the helmet horns.

Hey all. So I got some time on an airbrush but I foolishly left my paints at home, so I pretty much just got them primed black and some green thrown on some guys, not really worth taking a pic. I also picked up my new green paints, so I'll be finding out how different they are soon.

I painted up 10 marines guns and tried out blue plasma cells. Thanks again to Dirty Harry for the suggestion, I really dig the color I might just work on the how I do it but that's for future me to figure out.

I also played a flames of war game today, on a 8x16 board, I got pics of the thing. I'm going to paint up some more so I'll post pics of it later. I was mainly trying out taking pics of figures on boards for future battle reports. I did manage to flash my opponent in the eyes as he bent down to check LOS. Not today buddy.

Anyways I know I'm not the best painter but I'm happy with how things are progressing. I probably post to many times in here but its fun being back into the hobby, and I guess I'm a bit excited. Thanks again for reading.

Yeah, the bone on those weapons was a nice touch. Kind of personifies the weapons being the 'teeth' and 'claws' of your chaos Marines.

Hey everyone, hope you all had a good Sunday. I was able to get 2 fun games in today, the first against orks and the second against  chaos space marines. This is the first time i fought either army, so i was excited about that. Some how a ton of pictures got corrupted because when  got home i had over 100 black screen pics. Which sucks because i was using these as notes for what happened.
The process of getting the pictures from my phone to my computer is a swirling hellstorm so i will only be putting up 1 report tonight, and its the chaos n chaos because i played it second and its fresher in my mind. Next time ill be taking notes as i play.

Iíll post the games turn by turn report, and then just put in all the pictures i have. I wanted to arrange it each post would be a turn with 5 pics but it is what it is. Future reports will get better. So here is my list and then my opponents list to best of my memory.

T was 1850pt, also each player would place 3 objectives marked 1-3. Each turn we would roll 2 d6 for objectives. 1-3 would be control one or 2 objectives with the related number. 5-6 was kill a unit.

Warpsmith
Aura of dark glory

Sorcerer
Terminator armor
Lv 2 sorcerer

9x chaos space marines
Plasmagun

4x Terminator
4x combi-melta
1xpowerfist

Hellbrute

5xraptors
2xmeltagun

5xhavocs
2xlascannon
Rhino
Havoc launcher

5xhavocs
2xlascannon
Rhino
Havoc launcher

Forgefiend

I rolled telepathy got 3 powers that had no affect on the game. Also my warpsmith got soul blaze warlord trait.

His army as best as i can remember

Typhus with 4 termies, 4 combi melta, 4 powerfist, in a landraider

5x plague marines
2 meltaguns
Powerfist
Rhino

5x plague marines
2 meltaguns
Power fist
Rhino

Like 20-30 zombies

2x maulerfiends

A forgeworld tank with a plasmacannon thing on the turret and 2 lascannon sponsons

A fancy flyer with tons of attacks

Not sure what his warlord trait was, and he got a bunch of nurgle powers.

I won the roll off and let him go first

Deployment
He placed his plasmatankl and maulerfiends on my left flank ( all positions will be given from my persepective of the board to not cause confusion). And everything else was grouped up on the right flank, his zombies behind the building, and his landraider and rhinos all ready to push forward.

I placed my hellbrute and forgefiend on my left flank, i plavced a csm squad in the ruins in my middle. The havocs were placed to hold na objective on my left flank, and get shots on the landraider. The troops placed infront to provide cover.

Turn 1
So he moved everything but his plasmatank forward. His maulerfiends running to reach the objective 3. Some running on the right and rhinos going flat out. His landraider shot, i think causing on glance on a rhino but nothing crazy. His plasmatank shot up my hellbrute immobising it and causing to hull 2 points.

My turn saw small sifting forwards as i wanted to just open up with what ever i could. Lacking any real targets i fire my forgefiend at his front maulerfiend and i cause 1 hull point. Not the ace shooting  was looking for. On the right flank i fired 2 lascannons from 1 havoc squad at his landraider, and 1 hit, further rolling a 6 to blow it up.  I am all that is man!! Some other minor shots dont see any real effect, but what ever, did you see that shot??

Turn 2
His flyer comes on and zips over by typhus. Most of is stuff moves forward some more, his plague marines with plasma pop out of the rhino to fire at my furthest right rhino sitting on objective 2. Combined fire see the rhino wrecked, without enough fire left to do anything to the guys who bailed out. Some fire from also sees its way to forcing a hullpoint my other csm rhino on the right flank. His plasmatank fire at my rhino in the ruin cause 1 hull point. Not much for shooting really, his maulerfiends charge my hellbrute and forgefiend, seeing them both turned to smoking crater....so we square for the landraider?

My turn i get my sorcerer and his 4 termie homies in, i drop them between the maulerfiend and plasmatank to secure objective 3 my current mission. No scatter sees them hit home.  I do nt cast anything because i got nothing i can zap with my mind awesomeness. Shooting sees the already damaged maulerfiend blow up, i went for the easy most likely kill, as i didnt plan for the termies to see the next turn. With no real AA i fire the lascannon havocs from the squad that destroyed the landraider at his flyer, 1 hit, 1 pen, immobilised and crashed. Although this was super sweet, it was balanced out with everything else doing nothing. Take the good with the bad i guess.

Turn 3
(Im not going to lie, some things from this point on may happen at different turns my memory is hazy, i guess due to those sweet lascannon shots i was woozy)

Maulerfiend heads towards my rhino in the ruins. Again most everything moves forward, his chaos spawn zipping past my front line toards my havocs. Combined fire sees my other csm rhino go up, killing 2 guys inside. Leaving them nice and open for typhus. His plasmatank obliterates my termies leaving the sorcerer with 1 wound. I gotta get me one of dem. Some light shooting on the right flank doesnt see much go down. His maulerfiend assaults and kills the rhino, and his spawn assault the rhino with my ace havocs.  i rolled, you guess it, two 6ís in overwatch.  Still, he takes out my rhino. Typhus charges in, rolls a 1 for his deamon weapon. My champion meets his challenge and manages to cause 1 wound on typhus. The other marines amazed that their champion is going to kill typhus they do nothing, and then typhus kills my champion, and the other termis kill all but 1. He runs 4Ē.

My raptors come and i drop them next to his plasmatank to hopefully save the sorcerer. Again no scatter leaving me 6Ē away.  I move the sorc towards his maulerfiend, to get that rear shot. Pretty much everything moves a bit, i get my warpsmith up front to flame his plague bearers. The havocs dont move. Shooting sees little to nothing. The raptors stun/shake the tank and put 2 hull points on it, thus saving the sorcerer. I mass fire at the spawn infront of my havoc squad, causeing 1 wound  think. Not to much going on, im afraid my luck as left me.

Turn 4
Things move forawrd, typhu starts going around my one brave soul. Melta plague marines get out and ready to shoot the guy. Everything moves to good charge positions. Shooting sees my wrpsmith die, all for that 1 flame kill, sad. The one guy suprisingly does not make. His zombies charge the warpsmiths old squad, mauler charges my 9 marines, and the spawn charge my havocs. My csm squad goes down to about 3 guys and i kill 1 or 2 but they hold. The havocs manage to cause 1 wound while receiving none in return.

Now i know its just a meat grinding that im not winning, bu i drop my remaining terme squad in behind typhus. No scatter yet again.  The raptors move to a rear shot position, and blow the tank up, leaving them out of the game for the rest of it.  I fire some havoc and termies at typhus i think killing 2 of his buddies. Things arent looking good on that right flank. The zombie assault sees me lose 1 more and i kill 2, again we stand stronge. The havocs manage to cause another would while taking none in return. Maulerfiend kills 2 more and i hold my ground.

Turn 5
Hois plague squad and typhus squad postion to stomp my termies into paste, dear god no.
Shooting sees 1 of my termies go down. He mad dashes his plague marines rhino around to the objective by the mmaulerfiend combat to secure it for a point. The zombies bring me down to 1 guy, i kill a coouple again, i mean doesnt it matter? The havoc combat goes stale mate with no side doing anything. I maanage to kill i think 1 termie before typhus and his buddies destroy their faces. Maulerfiend i think wiffs his attacks or only kills 1, to my nothing again we hold.

With little to nothing left and it being the final turn i try desperately to get anything. Alas my luck being gone nothing really happens for me, havocs dont die, the last guy hold against the zombies stopping him from scoring objective 2.

Final score was 8-7 for my opponent.Honestly it was a super fun game, im a little bummed out i couldnt give the full detail this game deserved. With my poor memoy and me having had a 420 break before the game the details were kinda lost. Im sorry i didnt give what our objectives were each turn as i forgot which were in which turn. Again next battle report will see improvement.

My havocs in one of the squads were just the tits. Although the dice went cold for them i couldnt ask for more and they were totally my mvpís. This was my second game against flyers so im happy i didnt really feel the lack of AA. My sorcer was dropped in a place he couldnt really do to much, and i dont think ill roll on telepathy again. But i needed obj 3 so they had to drop where they did.

Now ill just post a bunch of pics, they should be in order.  Hope you guys enjoy this, let me know what you think of my list and how i could tweak it. Maybe what moves i could have done different. Also an questions please ask. Thanks for reading.

Hey everyone. So i wanna start by saying sorrying about the quality of the battle rep and pics. Although my opponents didnt mind me taking pics, i did feel bad slowing things down so alot of the quality is crap.

Enough of that though, i got a bit more done on my marines. They are done, with some small touch ups needed and basing to be done. But i wont be doing anymore work on them for a bit, i want to get other models painted up. I tried something different with the weapons bone color, not sure if i like it. I also painted my first flesh being the aspiring champion. Unfortunately i misread my pots and painted on about 3 layers of red before realizing it wasnt brown. But i still dont think he came out to bad, im to scared to try and do his eyes.

I only took a pic of the champion and a plasmagunner, as the rest are pretty much the same, unless someone wants pics of all of them i wont bother until i start doing more detailed work.

Also the champions with no guns are going to be getting some soon, im just not sure if ill give them combi's or not, i wanna try them out a bit first. Anyways hope yous enjoy and thanks for reading.

Hey also forgot to throw in the pics of the rhino's combi bolters. The green was with the new pots i bought. I think they look close enough the same to the rest of the army.

Not sure what ill start next, on the weekend ill be spraying up the havocs green, and their rhinos gray so i won't be doing anything on them til after that. So I'm debating between the following;

-terminator lord
-terminator sorcerer
-hellbrute
-5 raptors

Which ever one it is ill try and get painted for sundays game. Ill try and play a small point game, so i can have maximum painted figures, and it will make taking pics for a battle report much easier. Probably where i should have started in the first place lol.

Anyways ill shut up. Here is pics

So here's what I got for the sorcerer, just deciding what color to do his scabbard and how do go about doing his force weapon. This is using the new paints again. I wanna start coming up with a name and symbol for my army, so I can fill empty shoulder pads with something.

Sweet conversion on that sorc. If you wanted to use Typhus's rules, you could definitely use him as a counts as typhus.

I love the Dark Angel Conversion piece for your librarian. Like i was saying before, my Chaos army will be a newly converted Dark Angel chapter... So I am oping to get the similar effects of the traitor looks... I might even buy a set of DW knights and do conversations, with any luck i can make my own set of bad ass converted guys....  I am still working on finishing up the 2 wings in my Dark Angel army, so i have some time before I'm ready to work on my Chaos... i will be sure to share once i start painting them up. Keep up the good work shields.

Hey everyone. Thanks for the comments guys, yeah i did make him with typhus in mind. I just know that once i run him will want a horde of zombies. I ended up painting up his staff, i duno how i feel about it, i didnt thin the paints enough too so yeah.

I love the DA termies stuff, so good for conversion work. Plus they just look good anyways, i picked up about 4 boxs of space marine terminators and a box od DA termi command squad like a year or so ago and just never used them. I can't wait to see pics of what you got done Dihunter.

So here is the force staff, and i started working on his terminator buddies. Once i get to the lightning claw i think i might try and do lightning effects. My goal is to try and get the 5 termies done by tomorrow but we will see. Anyways thanks again for reading, and commenting.

So i managed to get the sorcerers retinue pretty much done, aside from basing and detail/touch ups. I probably wont rush to paint things again, i dont think they turned out as good as they could have.

Now the trophies on the champions shoulder wracks  im waiting to paint. The first space marine he kills in a challenge will have their chapter painted on that helmet. The tyranid one i duno i might not wait and just choose a random scheme.

So thanks again for reading and hope you enjoy.

Check out the company Wargames Factory, they make a fantastic zombies kit that can build 30 models for $20. One of the chaos players in my local group got two boxes of the female zombies and runs those in his nurgle lists.

I just checked them out, are they the civilian looking zombies? I really like the models but i don't think it fits in to the grim dark theme. I think zombies will be in the distant future any ways as i wanna keep my army mobile.

I cant decide what to work on next.  Its bumming me out. I'd like to get something else ready for Sunday. Curse my indecisiveness.

Why not start basing the guys you have painted? More or less finish em off, call em done.

I have no idea why i avoid basing models like the plague, but it is what it is i suppose. I only have green flock now anyways so cant really do the bases. I'll probably just go with a simple grass, dirt, and rocks thing.

I did eventually start doing something, go some paint on the hellbrute. Starting off with his flesh. Some of the hoses seem to have some kind of material around them, im going to try it as flesh first. See if i like it.

I mainly just wanted to get something on a model today, any progress is still progress. Plus by doing one color like this i force myself to finish the thing. Thanks again for reading.

I wold not recommend basing the army yet... When you do base them don't rush it.. So personally, i use the base to connect the army with my terrain set. (i play several armies, and each one has its own world) So my DA have a dark brown color paint with normal sand mixed in for effect. (petco sand for fish) While my Ork has a much lighter brown with some green moss (petco dried moss for terrariums) Both of these armies have terrain that i build and design around them... For example. I have several swamps covered in the moss... Looks nice for a dark angel game... But amazing when my orks hide there. I do not know if you have thought about building / designing terrain yet... If your interested i can put up some pictured of the stuff I've built for some super simple ideas.

Those are damn fine ideas. I was thinking if i went to tournaments id wants a piece or two of terrain for a display board, but hadn't thought much more into it. I think basing will be one of the last things i'll do, right now I wanna get guys painted.

Maybe its because its 3:30 am but this hellbrute is breaking my spirit. The blade on the autocannon snapped some how, i fixed it but took a pic before because why not. About to wash the green and silver once the glue dries. Tomorrow will be the horns, his spine, and his face plus any other do dads ive missed.

lookin sweet. the red under the flesh tones really makes the fleshy bits look visceral. After you get all the major painting done on it, I really think you can finish it off with the Blood For the Blood God technical. Use it sparingly to trace around where the flesh is wrapped around the metal and drip it slightly where gravity would force it to trickle. Tellin ya man, little touches like that will make a model like a hellbrute a center piece to the army. Though you may wanna slow your roll on the progress, take a step back, and woosah. You've been hammering out figures over what seems like 2 weeks, which is A LOT of progress.

Great progress on the helbrute. More importantly... Metal? Metal?? it is no longer 1994 go get something glass before you give yourself all timers. Love the grenade... were you ever enlisted?? Anyways the color different with the helbrute it amazing. You did some good work last night.. i am sure you will continue to find spots that you want to keep updating... but i think he is getting about done... (not finished, but done for now) I can still see some models in the back round that are just green.. what do you have left to paint?

Dirty Harry- I was going to ask about blood effects but forgot. I wanna make the metal look like its exploding through his body. Ill probably pick that up this weekend. And i agree i need to slow down. I always start off saying ill just do a base color, and then one thing leads to another.

Dihunter2- I have all kindas of things around here for that. The metal is just nice for the paint area so glass dont get broke or painted on. No sir never been in the army, to much metal in my live, lol. This will be one of those models ill go back to constantly, when i take pics of it i find more things i could do. Which i dont mind, i feel that way about all my guys, they are done til i get better at painting and wish to do more. As far as things left to paint;
-forgfiend
-5 raptors
-10 terminators
-16 Havocs (4 missile launchers, 4 lascannons)
-2 rhinos with havoc launchers
-terminator lord

Thanks again for the comments guys. Feedback is really motivating.

Alright, he is done for now. I wanna add the blood later but yeah. Not happy with the yellow eyes and i tried and tried and tried. Ill go back to it another day. Not sure if the face came out but i want it to look like the skin had peeled off his jaw, blood will be added here later. Again to scared to try eyes. I took some pics with and without flash hopefully some come out.

All in all the juice was worth the squeeze. I liked painting this model, i just didnt realize i liked it until i was done.

I will try and take a painting break for the next few days. Maybe i'll work on their back story a bit. I'll be spraying up the havoc squads rhinos gray on saturday, i think ill add more green to them to have them stand out a bit more. And i still need to complete a couple terminators, i need to convert 3 combi-meltas and then they will be ready for priming. Thanks for reading hope you guys enjoy this one.
