Quick Question
« on: October 23, 2013, 05:44:00 PM »
So guys I play knights so normally I only come here to spy. But today I have a different reason today my friend (CSM player) wants to know what is keeping daemon in the top 3 on the tournament sense. So what is/are top list(s) as of right now and why?

I'm just starting daemons but here is my guess. Daemon flying circus seems pretty powerful. You can fit 5 FMC in 1 FOC, thats pretty good. plus all or most are high level Psychers. 2 greater daemons as HQs, then 3 daemon princes in heavy support. then add plaguebearers for high cover saves objectives.

from my understanding you take a bunch of heralds of tzeench, put on them on disc and give them lvl 3 divination, and the grimore of true names. attach the one of the heralds to a big unit of screamers. they each have 3 attacks plus HOW. with the grimore of true names the unit will have a 2++ rerollable.

Ok so there are 3-4 Powerful Daemon Builds.  They fall into 2 tiers though

The Lower Tier Competitive

1.) Flesh Hound Rush (take lots of flesh hounds aim for turn 2 assault)
2.) Seeker Rush (see above but with Seekers.

Top Tier competitive

1.) FMC spam-  The list will typically look like

Fateweaver
Another Greater Daemon -(usually either Tzeentch, Slaanesh, or Nurgle)
Minimum Troops
3 Flying Daemon Princes all kitted out with gifts and psychic powers

Often ally CSM for another Prince and A heldrake if points allow

Use the Grimoir of True names (on a 3+ gives a daemon unit +2 to thier invul save until their next turn) to give Weaver a 2++ save which he re-rolls.  Use him to control the warp strom and his re-roll ability to keep your monsters flying.  Keep the mosters alive and contest objectives late.  This list competes with other top builds by typically keeping fateweaver alive, and everything else off the table winning on objectives late, against lesser lists 5+ monsters assaulting/shooting can do a number on many builds.

2.) Screamer Star

Basic Build

Fateweaver

2-4 Tzeentch Heralds (depending on how much of a star you want as far as reliability and points) on disks with LV 3 psyker.  1 with Grimoir(see above)

9 Screamers

Fill in list around this base some take Dogs/seekers, some Soul Grinders, Others Daemon Princes, + troops

You roll on divination with your heralds to try and get the 4++ invunerable save power, cast it and grimoir on screamers they then have a 2++ re-rollable save.  Then make use of Heralds shooting/Slash attacks/assaults to harrass the opponent with a Nigh unkillable unit.  Also a good unit to eat overwatch for other assaulting units etc.

Not really you can only run 1 herald in a allied detachment so while you could put a grimoir herald in a screamer unit you would only be about 50-50 to get the powers you need, and without fateweaver to re-roll grimoir tests it is not as reliable.

Daemons as allies can kind of work it you want say 2 FMCS or a herald in one of the fast attack choices as a pressure unit but overall they are a better primary army than secondary.

Alright so lets say the point limit is 1750 for the list and it had to have else elements:
-The list is an Alpha
-Mono god doesn't matter
-But has to include CSMs effectively has the idea was to use the deaomes has allies in the first place

If the list had to have all of those thing what would it look like, top alpha build.
Also thank you guys so much for the help

So it really depends on what you mean by use CSMs effectively

Without doing points exactly right now

Csm

DP
DP

10 cultists
10 cultists

3* heldrake

Daemons

Fateweaver
Daemon prince
10 horrors
10 horrors

Aegis line with comms relay

Would be a possible starting point.  I'll think on it more a bit later and actually build some lists
