Next Mystery Box?
« on: July 09, 2013, 12:10:16 PM »
Rumors about the next mystery box GW is putting out in October?

Supposed to be Blood Bowl, which makes sense, but of course I'd love a 40K themed release along the line of Space Hulk.

Warhammer Quest would be awesome also.

Maybe Battlefleet gothic?

Although we already kind of got that with Dreadfleet.

Thoughts?

Would you be ok with Blood Bowl?

Blood Bowl seems like the obvious choice, and maybe one of the most popular specialists games there has been. Wouldn't bother me either way as I don't buy them, athough maybe if it is Gothic....

I'm hoping for Space Hulk, but I don't know if we're going to see that again...  :(

I'm liking warhammer quest could be a really good set if done well, been playing a lot of dread ball so would be interesting see a blood bowl release.

Mystery Box?  What's that ?  I do not recall anything like that.   I do recall the Black Boxes they used to  provide to retailers for rereleases.

One thing I wished they did for Space Hulk would be a limited release of the models.  Just a box of the casts for those who never got the chance to get a SH2 box.   That would be cool.

I need to hurry up and finish painting Dreadfleet before this gets released so I don't extend my paint queue!

I think Warhammer Quest would be great - you could do something really fun with a standalone box and a 12 session campaign would fit in well with the model provide in Space Hulk and Dreadfleet. This would be my first choice at the moment even if I think Blood Bowl is more likely.

With Blood Bowl, I guess we would see Orc and human teams in the box - would they mix up the mystery box format and release other teams outside it? I slightly worry that however they support it could be disappointing. However, the elimination of the specialist games range as they run out of metal miniatures in stock may open a gap for one game to be well promoted over the next year or so (until the next mystery box is released). Would the intensive promotion that comes with a blood bowl mystery box justify a finecast release of other teams for example? If they were to look at very slowly re-releasing the specialist games as mystery boxes it could provide a good business model for the range with each game getting an autumn of promotional focus followed by one or two years as the prominent specialist game. It's long history and strong fan base make it a good starting point for a new specialist games range marketed in this way.

What else could we see in future. I guess all the other specialist games could be options. I always want to see more Necromunda as it's a great, but great game! Mordheim and Battlefield Gothic could be great in due course - I've never played them so it would be a great opportunity to try them. Epic 40k could be interesting if it ever got the mystery box treatment as there's a very wide range of armies and models that we would really want to see.

It would be good though if we continued to get occasional standalone mystery boxes for old games like Space Hulk and Dreadfleet. Maybe Advanced Space Crusade/Tyrannid Attack could be developed to be more like Space Hulk and gain from an update. As mentioned above, Warhammer Quest would be a great one off as well!

Rumor has it that there are four BB tems- humans, orcs, elves, and chaos all stars. If so, even as a one release and with no expansion the box has huge potential.

Not too up to date on the rumors, but bloodbowl was my entrance in to GW and the Warhammer world so I would love to seen another BB box.  The 3rd edition box was my first 'big' hobby purchase when it came out in 94...only being 14 at the time I had to have a friend take me to the store and pick it up (and deathzone).  I had to mow alot of lawns to save up lol

Plus I've been on one of those 'cleaning house' painting kicks and have finished up 2 teams in the last few weeks...SO many 10yr+ teams lying around unpainted!

Just finished painting up Dreadfleet last weekend, so I am ready for a new box set.  Dreadfleet exceeded my expectations.  If this one is Bloodbowl, and it is as good as Dreadfleet, I will happily fork over my dinero.

I thought GW stopped supporting the niche games like blood bowl and mordheim.
Don't try making a unit unkillable. its a waste of time and the dice gods laugh at you for wasting your time. Dedicate a unit to a job and make sure it does it til it's either dead or running.

Normaly I would say so, but from time to time, they come out with a box set to cash in. Like dreadfleet or space hulk.

While its just a rumor and plenty of salt is required, I read over on Faeit who got his info of blood of kittens that the next mystery box isn't blood bowl but a Skirmish game called Warhammer 40K Inquisition. It makes sense tho, I think a 40K Skirmish game will sell better than Blood Bowl and It could work as a Gateway into 40K as they are saying it will be 28mm not 54mm like Inquisitor. Designed for 2-4 players and 5-10 models per army, with new models drawn from Blanches artwork. This could also be why the are supporting the fan made movie Lord Inquisitor as it will make a nice tie-in. Anyway here is links to both articles, you decide how true-

Was just going to post this, but figured one of the Warmaster forum guys has to have already covered it...

I would be ALL over this, would be AWESOME on all levels...

I can totally see GW doing a limited release for the cash grab and to test the waters...
