The long road through the Eye of Terror.
« on: July 18, 2014, 04:37:32 AM »
So awhile ago I decided to completely repaint my CSM army. I wasn't happy with the bland lazy paint job I had landed on when I started so I made the effort to create my own legion colors.

After months of trial and error (yes months, I'm very picky) I finally landed on a paint scheme that I like, that's relatively easy and quick to paint, and has enough room to be improved upon or accented. It also leaves room for assimilation of other schemes like incorporating Nurgle or Khorne units.

I have dubbed this new legion as "The Cult of the Fallen Star" (name still pending). http://imgur.com/a/NrfF7

I landed on this look because I really liked how the metallic paints look on armor. Everything from the bronze sandy colored armor to the nice simple white trim.

The first pic is a wip model while the next few guys are my finished models. Just painting a 10 man CSM squad to hash out the routine and technical details (power cables, wash layers etc.). It will also allow me to see what a larger mass of this color will look like. I think I can get a marine painted up in about 2 hours (+/- drying time).

I'm feeling good about this new direction my army is taking. It is alittle early to say for sure, but for the first time I'm proud of the colors my men (and daemons) will be marching to war with. It definitely feels more like my own army now, with its own identity that I can shape and mold.

Now not all is perfect. I have a very large task in front of me now. My CSM army is 5300 points strong. With almost a dozen vehicles and probably 80+ in infantry, that's A lot to paint. And I've just got 4 marines finished.....
That's a big plate I got now. Worst yet is I'm....not fond of painting. I don't mind it, but I think I'm too impatient for it. And it's not made any easier by looking at the scale of what I want to achieve. I'm more of a modder. I Love love love modeling units. Changing arm positions, customizing weapons, kit bashing and swapping bits. Any kind of physical modifications you can think of, I'm all over it. I'm a Warpsmith proud and true. I even just recently finished corrupting a junk space marine dreadnaught into a new hellbrute. But painting, not so much.

My one true motivation is wanting to see this army I've spent so much time on become real. My brother is making great strides with his Ork army, painting like a mad man. But his army just looks so epic with every addition he paints and adds to it. It's really inspiring honestly.

So over the next little while I'll be posting my painting logs and updates at where I'm at. I'm on a mission now, I'm determined. The thing that was holding me back for so long was the uncertainty of what should I paint my army, of what direction I should take my legion. But now we have direction! Our new lords have shown us the path, and now we can begin our long crusade into the Eye of Terror.

First milestone finished!

Got my first set of CSM guys done! A full 10 man Khorne squad is all painted and ready for battle, decked out in my brand new Legion Colors.

Lets see if I can upload more then one pic this time. I got my comp working so now I can upload from there rather then my phone.
