Regimental Advisers, any good?
« on: December 18, 2014, 10:34:47 PM »
So I'm starting an Imperial Guard force and I'm wondering if the Regimental Advisers are worth it. Does anyone have any thoughts or tactics they wish to share with a new Guard player? For your information, I'm planning on running my Guard both independently and as an allied detachment for my Ultramarines.
Ultramarines - 4000 pts
W-7 / T-1 / L-3
Imerial Guard - 2000 pts
W-0 / T-0 / L-0

Hi, JMAN, I also approached guard from the perspective of a veteran marine player. Here's what popped out at me.

In large point games, masters of ordnance are totally worth it. Especially when you order his unit to ignore cover or something like that.

Camo for vets, vehicles, and company command squads combined with techmarines can give your units 2+ cover saves in ruins... even if they don't get the right strategic trait. At that point, look at camo as worth it at double the price, since it doubles your units survivability against anything that doesn't ignore cover.

If you are starting guards you want some advisers. The 2 first one are the commissar (or lord commissar) and the Psyker Primaris (or Astropath). They can make 2 different kind of advisers. The 2 next one one want are the priest and the techpriest (which I don't even own myself right now, and I have a lot of guard). After that you can get double of previous advisers and the others ones that are left.

You don't have to buy specific models for most of them to. MoO is just a guy with a radio, commissar can be made from tank commanders and guardmans pieces. Priest are a little bit more tricky and I think I am going to get some sort of special models from a random website for my techpriest (I want it to be really unique and crazy)
