Is the age of the Sabre...gone?
« on: January 12, 2015, 10:03:41 AM »
Hey guys :) I finally bought and glued my 3 sabre defence platforms [i bought em on the advice of one of our members in my post "how do you handle daemons?" oh by the way...he still wrecked my face with 2 units of full mantas and that damn 2++ rerollable, kairos and tzeentch demon princes summoning in combo with portals too much ---. Yes i stopped playng against him because he made the game not even anymore fun. Yes he wins every 3 months 1st place in every friggin turnaiment of every shop in my city....that led me to drop competitive play and almost all warhammer in excess of nerdrage] rant over...

My question is.. in 7th edition skyfire + interceptor changed. For worse. So now... as per imperial aeronautica rules, i can only snap shot against ground units...
Let's look at the unit for one moment:
50 points VS like 35-40 for a normal lascannon heavy dude in any marine or something army
Bs3 (will matter against flyers only] that against ground units becomes effectively bs1...we can get a lot better vs ground units.
Twin linked now that is HUGE against flyers, because in-build TL is better than bs 4. And effectively against ground units gets somewhat like bs 2. But about's really easy to get with orders or a primaris psyker. Personally, just because it's easy for us to get TL i would prefer bs3 always and giving them TL later than in-built indipendency.
T7 W2 this is simply awesome and resilient as ---.
and now the real ---. IMMOBILE.
The units gives out a 48" of no flight zone, that is 1/3 of the table and LOS blocking terrain + poor deployment could mean the end of uselessness of the unit. It's resilient but can be outmanouvered easily. It's a --- against ground targets. It's farly good against flyers BUT... a unit of 3 is 150 points. For almost the same price i can get a vendetta, that is a flyers will be loaded with 3 melta suicide dudes, has exactly the same 3 TL lascannons that can shoot BETTER against ground units and is 10 times better at moving. Also now vehicles are tougher. Yer flyers can still die on 5+ and T7 is playnly better than having hull points and ---, but flyers usually get hit only on snapshots and...shenanigans.
[--- the vendetta is good, why again i never use it and play with the avenger?]

What are your thoughts? I liked the sabres better before because of their sheer resiliance and independency from psy-support. But now? Is there any update? like...give em again the previous AA MOUNT rule? And even in that case....why not take a vendetta instead?

More and more, I find myself ignoring flyer all together. Most flyer have some good fire power but to win games. The few flyers or flying monster have to drop to the ground to win objective, and once they are on the ground they are dead. I don't deal with them, if I want a vendetta... I take a vendetta. I know saber got nurf, (I love the one with 2 TL Heavy-Stuber, against Orks), but like a lot of stuff you don't want to play them over and over. Saber platform are great in the one game you plan with a friend that bring 6 flyers or flying monsters.

I like to play 40K on the ground a lot more than from the sky.
-Don't be afraid brothers. It will be a victorious day! Let's  face our enemies standing, with fire in our heart and... Kaboom

They are perhaps not as great as they once were, but still a good option.

Depends on your opponents.
My list has enough anti armour for taking out most tanks.
The ones I have issues with are the really fast ones. These are normally skimmers aswell. Skyfire works against skimmers.

They are less useful. But still very useful.
