New to guard, need help with wargear etc.
« on: February 25, 2015, 09:47:20 PM »
Hey fellow Guard players. I require some assistance with the decision of wargear, particularly with my command squads.
As I'm not 100% certain on the role they play other than order batteries.
So far I have:
Twenty Cadian Shock Troops, both squads with Grenade Launchers and Vox Casters.
Chimera with Multilaser.
Platoon Command Squad with two grenade launchers, med pack and vox caster.
Two squads of Scions, two equipped with Meltas. Two equipped with Plasma.
Two Leman Russes (Punisher + Vanquisher), usually taken in a tank commander squad with Pask in the Punisher for the rends and Old grudges so the Vanquisher hits more.
Commissar
Lord Castellan Creed and Colour Sergeant Kell

Now obviously I have to pick up the command squad, which I will be doing shortly.
Now the main questions are:

What to equip my new command squad? (I was thinking either Grenade Launchers/Flamers)

Tank Commander Squads? (Should Pask be run with tanks more suited to close combat? For mainly I keep him now with the vanquisher for Old Grudges.)

Where are scions most effective? (I figured they're mostly suited for marine hunting, however plasma/melta can make them Heavy infantry/Vehicle hunters. Wut do?)

I plan for my army to be a mechanized infantry force. (Infantry/Vehicles) Thanks!

So as for the scions I would recommend putting them in Valkyries or Vendettas. This gives them some extra maneuverability. Chimeras would also work here, but are more squishy.
As far as Pask goes, both of those builds you use seem good to me.
Now for the big question your command squad. Here is what I recommend and run.
Option 1 Cheap: Give them little to no upgrades maybe a voxcaster, this way they are expendable, and may not draw as much fire.
Option 2 Long Range Fire Support: Give all of your veterans sniper rifles and add a Master of the Ordnance for some long range killing. Now this option will draw more fire, as it can deal with MCs and adds a S9 large blast template to your damage output. Probably stick these guys in cover and maybe give them camo netting.
Those are the ways I like to run my CCs. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the suggestions, dropping pie plates with the Master of the Ordnance seemed like a good idea. I could imagine the amount of plates dropped with list run with basilisks.
I'll pick up some valks/vens. in the future, have seem some great play with vendettas. Three twin-linked lascannons. Its byoutiful.
Thanks for the help.  ;D
